Dr Sherol Hanna is co-director of Acumen Psychiatry. She is an experienced psychiatrist and a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Dr Hanna specialises in General Adult Psychiatry and has experience in treating Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Eating Disorders, Personality Disorders, Addiction Medicine and Psychogeriatric Disorders. She has a particular interest in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and the impact of medical problems on mental health and psychiatric disorders. Dr Hanna is also available for Independent Medical Examinations in psychiatry. Having treated many patients from TAC and WorkCover, she possesses an excellent understanding of issues pertaining to compensable jurisdictions.
Dr Hanna graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2005. She completed a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne in 2012. Dr Hanna’s psychiatric training was undertaken at The Alfred Hospital in Victoria. This included training in youth and old age psychiatry services. Dr Hanna has also completed training in impairment assessment, TMS and ECT.
Dr Hanna is currently is a Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist at Brunswick Private Hospital, John Fawkner Hospital and Freemasons Epworth Hospital in Victoria. She also has admitting rights at The Melbourne Clinic, Epworth Clinic and Brunswick Private Hospital in Victoria. She is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Brunswick Private Hospital. She is also a Consultant for the Psychiatric Assessment and Consultation Service at The Melbourne Clinic, which provides Telehealth psychiatric advice to General Practitioners seeking assessment and management advice for patients with complex psychiatric issues.
Throughout her career, Dr Hanna has gained invaluable experience working in rural locations throughout Australia. These locations include Bendigo, Albury, Wodonga, Orange, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Mildura, Maitland and Burney. She is passionate about ensuring General Practitioners are supported in the management of patients with psychiatric needs, and that every patient has access to timely psychiatric care.
Dr Hanna prides herself on her ability to work with a diverse patient population. She is empathic, approachable and focussed on establishing rapport and engagement with her patients. Her style is to focus on the individual’s needs with a preference for a holistic approach to management.
