Whilst you might be a little nervous about seeing a new psychiatrist, please be assured that our psychiatrists have a lot of experience in putting patients at ease. They will do their best to support you and make you feel comfortable during the review. Here is some information that might help you understand the process:
Patients
Are there any out-of-pocket costs?
Our psychiatric assessments incur a gap fee, both for the initial assessment as well as the follow-up appointment. Our receptionist can advise.
How long do appointments take?
The psychiatrist will see you for around 45 minutes, following which they will prepare a comprehensive report for your GP. These are once-off psychiatric assessments that aim to guide the general practitioner to continue to manage you.
How do I arrange an appointment?
You will need a referral from your GP sent to admin@acumenpsychiatry.com.au or faxed to us. Once your GP has sent us a referral, one of our administration staff will contact you to make an appointment. If your psychologist or another specialist recommends you have a 291 psychiatric assessment, you will need to ask your GP for a referral.
How do I connect to my psychiatrist at my appointment time?
You need a computer or other device with a webcam as well as good internet access. You will receive an email from our admin staff with a link to your appointment. At the time of your appointment, click on the link to be brought into your psychiatrist’s virtual waiting room. When the psychiatrist is ready to see you, they will let you in the virtual room and your appointment then begins. If you do not have access to a computer or good internet, we also arrange to see patients online at their local GP practice.
Is there a cancellation fee?
If you wish to cancel an appointment, you will need to phone (0434 032 466) or contact us via email (admin@livingwellpsychiatry.com.au). We require at least 48 hours notice of cancellation, or you may be charged with a $150 cancellation fee.
